About
Out in the Square is Wellington‘s famous gay and lesbian fair. It is an annual event that has been running for the past 25 years.
Out in the Square features stalls selling anything from secondhand clothing to jewellery to crafts to books to toys to electronics, and anything inbetween.
You can also choose from a selection of food and beverage stalls including international food, coffee, fast food, and much more.
Out in the Square is also famous for its all-day free entertainment, with local singers, drag queens and kings, comedians, and circus performers on stage for your entertainment.
Historically the gay and lesbian fair was set up to raise awareness around homosexuality in New Zealand, and that remains its goal today. Being visible in the community, in a fun, friendly, and open manner is still important.
Out in the Square is usually held around March every year, with stallholder and entertainer registrations beginning a few months before then.
The next fair will take place on Saturday 21 January, 2012, with a rain date of Sunday 22 January.
